technology moves quickly. government doesn't always move as quickly. there are times and inherent tension between departments and central offices that arise when resources are limited. there is always room for improvement. however, we are encouraged by the recent progress and collaboration and are confident about the success of ongoing and future efforts. some examples of recent successes are two years ago we did produce the first ever five year ict plan. this year we will update that plan and working with coit, the cio, and the controller's office on that report and open to feedback on how we can make it more useful to the board, departments, and to the public. the city email conversion project. i know that the civil grand jury points that as a failure or a ongoing frustration. i think we see some of the recent success and progress we're optimistic. right now 3600 users, 27 departments and some of the largest departments are slated for conversion in the next months and library is slated for conversion and additional 1300 accounts and others in january

as far as technology we have ramped up our involvement with our technology in that we've created a base, a beta base, for people that have been arrested for robberies, people that have been arrested for guns. then we find out exactly where these robberies occurred then with that information the items that were taken a private data base called leads online and we see if that individual has been pawning property off prior so we're able to close those cases also and maybe solve prior violent crimes. to that end, i brought lieutenant plier to organize all the station sit teams and the sit teams are the station investigative teams where each team has, each station now has a stand-alone computer and a 55-inch screen where the crime alerts are streaming through. the officers are seeing what's going on in the city, who is wanted for what, whether they are known or unknown. so it's really incruised their awareness. then through that information sharing with the officers we're identifying individuals that have committed robberies and are unidentified and/or are involved in a series of robberies.

you guys want more detail in how it works, but generally the approach with predicting is using the technology we have with realtime crime analysis. i think everyone here is almost somewhat familiar with comstat and what we've done in the past and how information was kleted collected in the past. but now what we're doing is using the information we collect from comstat and realtime when there's a crisis to be addressed or problems that come up we can deploy resources based on the research that we've collected. the other thing that we're looking at right now are software in terms of best practices throughout the country, software that actually does some of the police predicting as well. it's listed there, some of the cities that we've seen those in place that we're contemplating adding to the police department here in san francisco. but before we even get there, we've already deployed, murphy is going to speak to this when i sit down, but he's already working on doing the realtime deployment and doing the analysis of the predictive policing itself. >> what would i be interested in hearing -- it
